Information Regarding Collection of Student Books, Materials, & Instruments From the 2019-2020 School Year

Sat, 08/15/2020 - 10:49am

Dear Thomas Viaduct Families,

In preparation for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year, we want to share information related to the collection of materials still in your possession from last year and the distribution of new materials for use this school year. For any questions regarding the collection and distribution process at TVMS, please contact Brian Wallace at brian_wallace@hcpss.org.

Please know that our number one priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of every student, staff, and family member during this process. We ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Students and parents/guardians should remain in their cars during drop-off and pick-up of materials. Students and parents/guardians who will walk/bike to the school should also adhere to social distancing expectations throughout the process and will be directed by HCPSS staff upon arrival.

  2. Students and parents/guardians must wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines at all times.

The information contained below is primarily for our rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade(students who were in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade last year) families and students who attended Thomas Viaduct Middle School last year. If your student attended a different HCPSS school last year, including our new 6th grade students, we kindly ask that youvisit that school’s website to view their collection plan.

Before we can issue Chromebooks, instruments, and other materials for this upcoming school year, we need to collect all items students are holding from 2019-2020.

Below is our drop-off schedule and detailed procedures for returning materials. Further, to maintain safety during the drop-off process, it is critical that students and families maintain all social distancing practices, wear masks, and remain in your cars. We look forward to seeing ALL of our rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students and their families next week!

Does your student have items from last school year that need to be returned?

Many students have textbooks from content classes including novels from their ELA class and/or textbooks from Social Studies. Some students still have media center books, and others have instruments and other school issued items. Please encourage your student to gather those items as it’s time to return them!

How and when do I return items?

We have designated two days and time slots to collect school issued items:

Wednesday, August 26 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Thursday, August 27 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 pm.

Who should return items?

We are collecting items that belong to Thomas Viaduct Middle School, so only students who attended Thomas Viaduct last year should return items.  We will not take responsibility for items returned to us that belong to another HCPSS school.

What items should be returned?

Instruments:

If your student has an instrument that belongs to Thomas Viaduct and will remain in band/orchestra this upcoming school year at Thomas Viaduct, he/she should keep the instrument.

If your student is not continuing with the instrument in the band/orchestra and it belongs to Thomas Viaduct, the instrument should be returned.

Chromebooks (laptops)

If your student has a Chromebook and will remain in HCPSS (at Thomas Viaduct or any HCPSS school) this upcoming school year, he/she should keep the Chromebook.

If your student is not returning to HCPSS this school year, Chromebooks should be returned.

Books and other items:

All school issued books, textbooks, ELA novels, and media center books that belong to Thomas Viaduct should be returned.

Any other school issued items:

Any and all school issued items that belong to Thomas Viaduct should be returned.

What if my student did not attend Thomas Viaduct Middle School last year and has materials to return?

We can only accept items from Thomas Viaduct Middle School. If you have items from another HCPSS school (elementary or middle), you will need to return those items to the school your student attended last year. The information from other schools will be posted on their websites when confirmed. If your student attended another middle school, please visit that school’s website to view their collection plan.

How will the drop-off operate?

It is important that families follow the guidelines below, so that materials can be properly collected, inventoried, and prepared for redistribution:

Place all materials to be returned to Thomas Viaduct Middle School in any type of bag labeled with your student’s first and last name. Please note that the bag will not be returned to you.

Include a Thomas Viaduct Middle School Returned Books/ Materials Form in the bag. This form can be printed and completed, or you can simply write the information on a sheet of paper.

Staff will be present for collection, and all materials will be collected in the front of the school in the student pick up and drop off lane. Parents are asked to follow the established traffic pattern and drop-off stations upon arrival. If you do not have an instrument to return, you can bypass Station 1:

  • Station 1: Drop off instruments

  • Station 2: Drop off books (from classes, textbooks, media center, etc.)

  • Station 3: Drop off Chromebooks and any other Thomas Viaduct school issued items
