Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Information

Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) programs are offered at Atholton (Army), Howard (Army), and Oakland Mills (Air Force) high schools. A student who wishes to participate in JROTC, but does not attend one of the schools that offers JROTC, may apply for participation. Each school has a limited number of spaces available. To apply for participation in the 2019 -2020 school year, students must contact a JROTC official before January 11, 2019, to schedule an interview. Only students who are interviewed during this designated period will be considered for enrollment.

To schedule an interview, contact the JROTC official for the program of interest:

For more information on the HCPSS JROTC program, please visit the website. Additional information regarding meeting JROTC deadlines is in the Student Services Corner below.

JROTC (8th grade only) and Private School Applications:

It is the time of year where your student may be planning to apply to a private school and 8th grade students to JROTC. All requests for private school or JROTC applications, including teacher recommendations and transcript requests, should be sent to Student Services, attention to Mrs. Beale. Mrs. Beale can be contacted at 410-313-8247 or amber_beale@hcpss.org. She will collaborate with your student’s school counselor to complete the school’s portion of the application, including teacher recommendations.

In order to ensure timely submissions, please send all teacher recommendation form requests directly to Student Services. Once the school’s portion has been completed, the requested information will be sent directly to the requested school within ten business days.  You will receive email confirmation that the application materials have been submitted.  Please plan ahead according to the deadlines of submission as we do anticipate a high number of requests.
