Scholarship Funds for Middle School Summer Programs Available – Applications Due March 11, 2020

For African American, Latino or Native American males attending a public middle school in Howard County, Maryland, there is up to $25,000 available, approximately $350 per week of camp per applicant, to African American, Latino, or Native American males who are enrolled in a Howard County public middle school. The scholarship is for the costs of tuition and related expenses associated with participating in “qualified programs” that provide opportunities to gain knowledge, skills and unique experiences to enable them to successfully complete school and become life-long leaders in their community. Students who have previously received this scholarship, and continue to meet eligibility criteria, are encouraged to apply again.

Innovative Pathways Summer School Program

Innovative Pathways Summer School Program opened Saturday, February 1st, and will remain open until Saturday, February 15th, until 6:00 p.m., for the February registration window. 

Please note that only course offerings within the contents of Math and Science are open in February. All other course offerings will open with the March registration window, will begin on Monday, March 2nd, at 6:00 p.m.

Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County

Since 2006, the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County has partnered with Maryland Leadership Workshops to offer the JOURNEY program, a one-week overnight summer workshop for Howard County middle school girls (rising 7th, 8th & 9th graders) to develop their leadership skills. Journey 2020 will be held at Washington College July 12th through 18th this year.

A week at Journey includes: 

  • Workshops on topics such as empowerment and motivation, decision making, communication, self-awareness, goal setting, group dynamics, and conflict resolution
  • Group projects that challenge girls to apply new skills and exceed their own expectations
  • Team-building activities that strengthen interpersonal skills and build lasting memories
  • One-on-one mentoring with members of a dedicated and highly trained staff

Applications are due May 15, 2020. Journey and scholarship applications may be found at mlw.org. Financial assistance is made available by the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County
